So, thus begins my political blogging. I currently blog computer and software development issues at
http://www.frictionlessfloor.com and my personal life on a Xanga. I am a 23 year old software developer in the Atlanta metro that is an advocate of only one political principle: less government.
I am also a Christian, and while that obviously plays into my personal values, I feel that government does not have the right to impose values on the masses where they do not conflict with our basic rights of life, liberty, and property. For example, I would agree with banning abortion under the principle that it denies the right of life to a baby. However, I do not support putting a ten commandments in each courtroom either. After all, the ten commandments never changed someone's heart.
Quite frankly, we are overtaxed, overworked, overlegislated, overspent, and overlooked by those we elect into power. The 28% or so of each paycheck I make goes toward supporting illegal immigration, building monuments in the midwest, paying Ted Kennedy to murder young girls, and provides income for the lovely, oh so important politicians we currently have.
The balance of powers are a wreck. I learned in first grade or so that each branch was to be equal. Now, it seems all branches are jockeying for power to overtake the other two. Judges are legislating from the bench, legislators are offended when the president actually uses the role of Commander in Chief, and the executive branch, well his power is simply gone, other than appointing judicial nominees. Seems the other two have sucked it dry.
At any rate, we need less government. No more handouts except in the most extreme of situations. No more social security; my retirement should be a personal investment or should be taken care of by my family. No more post office. No more crazy taxes; impose the FairTax instead. No more welfare state. No more public education. If we have proven anything, it's that a Capitalist market will eventually discover what is both best for the people and profitable for business. Privatize everything.
Really, I'd be happy if the government consisted of border protection, the military, foreign aid in extreme situations, a police/fire system to keep citizens safe, a parks system for free public usage (nobody should own the Grand Canyon), and that's about it. We're too young of a nation to be getting big yet, and we will eventually implode if we continue our course.
So, that's where I stand. I will blog many categories of government, but they will all advocate less control over our personal lives. We've given up too much of our basic human rights in pursuit of a larger bill of rights. And then we've gone from Freedom of Speech to Freedom to Not Be Offended, and Freedom of the Press to Freedom to Publish Biased Information to Misinform the Public. It's time to take back this land.
